What is the .la extension and what are the benefits?
The .la extension was originally for Laos, but is now adopted as the official domain name extension for Los Angeles. The .la extension has two benefits, first of all there are no current restrictions on its use by any country which means it is as univeral and usable as a .com domain., and secondly the locale of the domain name means that it should be delivered highly in results for the Los Angelse locale.
Why Los Angeles?
Los Angeles is the largest city in the state of California, and the second largest city in the United States. Los Angeles also, according to Wikipedia has the second largest economic center in the Western Hemisphere with a gross metropolitan product of over $690 billion (2007 figures). Also stated is that if Los Angeles were a country, its economy would rank 17th in the world for nominal GDP. The GDP for Scotland (2005 figures as noted by Wikipedia) is only just above £85 billion (around about $170 billion), this is a quarter of the equivalent GDP for Los Angeles.
